James Howard was the only fighter pilot in the ETO to be awarded the Medal of Honor during WWII. James Howard was leading a flight of P-51s on January 11, 1944 when he found himself alone protecting a squadron of US bombers from about 40 German enemy planes. Peter Wilson, General F.
